Summary
The Judicial Conduct and Disability Act reflects Congress’s intent to provide the federal judiciary with a formal internal mechanism for investigating and resolving allegations of judicial misconduct or disability. The Act was enacted as a joint effort between Congress and the judiciary to address conduct that may not meet the threshold for impeachment, criminal prosecution, or reversible error, but which nonetheless threatens the effective and impartial administration of justice. It serves not as a punitive tool, but as a safeguard for judicial integrity.' 'It is for that reason—and in defense of this Court’s own credibility—that I write to you now. I respectfully and earnestly urge reconsideration of the May 27 Memorandum and Order. This is not a legal filing or a petition for review, but a principled plea for judicial integrity grounded in the hope that what should be done will be done voluntarily—and while it can still serve to protect the integrity of the judiciary. There is no moment more appropriate than now, and no better outcome than one in which internal accountability reaffirms the judiciary’s role as guardian of the Constitution.'
